The Good Cup Keeps on Giving: Coffee May Cut Your Risk of Colon Cancer

Posted by

Good news! We’ve just found another reason to justify your regular coffee intake.

This week, a new study suggesting that drinking coffee may cut your risk of colon cancer by 50 percent was released! As we’ve mentioned in a previous post, coffee has many benefits including that it’s full of antioxidants. According to Gad Rennert, the director of Clalit National Israeli Cancer Control Center, the “protective effect” derived from your cup of joe is not necessarily sourced from the caffeine but rather from the antioxidants contained in coffee. Which means caffeine-lovers and decaf-ers alike are reaping the benefits.

Rennert’s study collected data on men and women diagnosed with colon cancer and then compared their findings to data on men and women without a history of colon cancer; the study factored in their coffee intake and several measures of physical health. Findings suggest that those who drank more than 2.5 cups, reduced their risk for colon cancer by as much as 50 percent!

"For years, we were not sure if coffee was dangerous. Today, we have evidence that that's not the case, that actually coffee is good for you," Rennert said.

We’ve known it all along! So after reading this study, which only further supports the everlasting benefits of coffee, who needs a refill for their Café Valet machine?

Who is willing to pay this much for coffee?

Our relationship with coffee is a complicated one. Obviously we love it — it’s a delicious way to start your morning. And it’s easy to make it your own, whether that means cream and sugar, adding pumpkin flavors or keeping it black as the night. We drink it for comfort, and we drink it for [...]

Coffee Party Etiquette and Tips for the Grown-Ups

When’s the last time you went to a tea party? When I was a child, I held quite a few of my own. I’d invite my sister and my favorite stuffed animals, and we’d dress up our little brother. (I know we have pictures somewhere — poor guy.) We’d decorate and set the table with [...]

What is my topic? How am I getting connected with this reference? Which class am I even in right now?“Um ... yeah, professor. [...]

As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, I am a coffee-holic. My day doesn’t begin until at least one much-needed dark roast has been inhaled. 8 Ways That Coffee Comes in Handy

The other day, I was working on a scuffed-up piece of furniture, and instead of running to the store for stain, I took to Google to get some ideas. Turns out, I had exactly what I needed … in the kitchen. Coffee grounds helped me stain the furniture back to its original shade. All I [...]
