All You Need Is Love … and Coffee (But Mostly Really Just Coffee)

Sometimes at the end of a crazy day, I look at my kids when they’re asleep (by far the best hour of the day), and I think that the Beatles were right. All you need is love. Then the morning comes around, and we’re rushing to get people to school, work, wherever, and I just think that all I need is coffee.
Love may make my world go round; why else would we do all we do for our families and friends? But, if you don’t have coffee, you’ve got no fuel to do the love things. For example:
“I’d love to stay up late and help you with the report you forgot about that was assigned last week. But I’ll need coffee.”
“Get up at 5 a.m. to drive you to a swim meet? Sure, but I’ll need coffee.”
“Take you and your group of friends all out to play and have pizza? I'll definitely need coffee first."
No matter what, it all needs coffee. How else, after sleeping only 4.5 hours because you’re up thinking about the ones you love, do you function the next day? Coffee.
Parents are like sharks — you have to keep moving to survive. We get paid in love, which may be all I need theoretically, but in the real world, all I need is love — and a whole lot of coffee.
