5 People Who Spend a Boatload of Money on Coffee

Americans spend a lot of money on coffee — a whopping $1,092 a year per person, according to Wells Fargo.
Of course, that’s just the average. Many people probably spend way more than $1,092 a year on their habit. (Personally, I try to keep it affordable.) Although coffee drinkers come from all walks of life, the people who truly spend a fortune on their cups of joe tend to fall into one of these groups.
The hardcore hipster: Commonly found in Brooklyn and San Francisco, this guy spends most of his waking hours at the coffee shop (when he’s not auditioning or at his busboy job). The barista will often know this guy’s name, as will the other regulars. It’s a safe bet that his tab is through the roof.
The Wall Street warrior: This guy, likely a trader or investment banker, can’t be interrupted for a minute without some financial calamity ensuing. As if getting coffee from a coffee shop isn't expensive enough, this guy ups his bill with delivery service fees.
The hurried mom: From soccer games to piano recitals to birthday parties, this woman is pretty much an unpaid Uber driver. How does she make it work? Coffee … and a whole lot of it.
The all-night crammer (particularly during finals week): Frequent the college library during finals, and you’ll see this person there 24 hours a day. Of course, he or she probably had to take out a mortgage just to buy enough coffee to get through the week.
The great first-date people: Coffee shops are great first date destinations. (That’s the place I always choose.) They are great places for casual conversations, and if things go south, the “I’ve got a lot to do” excuse works well. But if the date’s going great, the bill will run pretty high. Go Dutch? Forget it, dude.
I'm definitely not wrecking my budget and paying $5 for a coffee, and nobody (but the local diner) brews a pot of coffee anymore. For me, the best way to afford my caffeine addiction and still have great-tasting coffee is by using my single-serve brewer. I stay on top of my game and on top of my budget. #winning
